UPDATE 1 - 5:00 p.m. REDUCED PRODUCTION AT POINT LISAS DESALINATION PLANT | |||
The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises customers in parts of Central and South West Trinidad, who are impacted by a cutback in production at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant that, repairs to a collapsed 42 inch backwash pipeline at the facility are still continuing. The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago – DESALCOTT has advised the Authority that the repair works are well advanced and expected to be completed by midnight tonight – Monday 13th> February, 2023. The DESALCOTT owned and operated facility, normally supplies the Authority with 40 million gallons of water per day (mgd), however this has been reduced to 15 mgd, due to the ongoing repairs at the facility. DESALCOTT also expects to complete ramping back up to full production of 40 mgd by midnight on Tuesday 14th> February, 2023. Areas to be affected include:
Customers are asked to manage their water use efficiently, as it may take up to 24 hours for the supply to normalize to some affected areas, after the Plant returns to full operation.
