"Water is essential for all, and our valued customers are essential to WASA"

These were the words of Senator the Honourable Ganga Singh, Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, speaking at the formal opening of the Water and Sewerage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago's (WASA's) Sangre Grande Customer Service Centre on Wednesday5th February, 2014. The new centre, based at River Street, will serve an estimated 40,000 residents of Sangre Grande and the outlying communities as far as Toco.

Speaking before a packed audience that included local government officials, WASA personnel and community members, Minister Singh explained that the new customer service centre was the 11th established by WASA as part of its goal to provide superior service to all areas of the nation.

"We are redressing the imbalance that rural communities have suffered," Minister Singh said. "We are bringing our services closer to you as WASA is going beyond water."

Previously, citizens from Sangre Grande and environs were forced to comute outside of their area to access WASA services such as bill payments and queries. Apart from its convenient location, the customer service centre will be open on Saturdays, as well as all other centres nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of his constituents, Dr. the Honourable Rupert Griffith, Minister of Science and Technology and Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande, applauded the WASA initiative.

"This is one of another of WASA's great contributions to the development of not onlythe infrastructure of Sangre Grande but of its people," Minister Griffith said.
